In 2013, I was appointed to be the assistant coach to Val Holland for the top ranked ladies and juniors in South Africa. This is an exciting project with an aim to help all of them to reach their absolute potential as golfers. Our ultimate goal is to make as many of them turn into successful tour players one day. The elite squad has currently 12 players and we get to work with them for 3 days per camp, which are all run at Devonvale Golf Estate. The players stay at the Stellenbosch Academy of Sports, SAS and the home SA 7's rugby, where they have excellent gym facilities and a kitchen that specilizes in healthy foods for athletes. During our 4 camps per year, we run golf skills test and offer new information to the players with a holistic approach to golf. For example; we are working along side the university and have access to mobile eye traning as well as 3D video analysis. In addition, we make the team work out and run fitness tests. We also make the players play on the course, run challenges within the team and make sure that the team spirit is on top. During the camps, the players also get to work with a mental coach to better their mindset on and off the course. The idea behind the camps, is not only to further the players knowlege within the game, but also to inspire them to become better golfers. The girls and ladies love these camps and to be able to join a WGSA camp is definately something that you need to strive to do. Keep practicing!
